Aislinn’s Accomplishments
Leading Change, Creating Impact
As the MPP for Kitchener Centre, Aislinn has served over 2500 constituents through meetings, email responses, phone inquires and casework involving ODSP, healthcare, education, and housing. She has put forward motions to protect prime local farmland and voted conscientiously on all house bills based on how they affect our community.
At Queen’s Park, Aislinn has put forward 31 amendments, and demanded accountability from the Ford government on oil and gas greed, rental protections, and healthcare.
Housing
Hosted Tenants Roundtable (with Mike Schreiner) to hear directly from tenants and other community partners about the issue and help inform Aislinn’s advocacy at Queen’s Park.
Put forward legislation to hold bad-acting landlords accountable for renovictions and protect tenants through my first Private Member’s Bill - the Keeping People Housed Act.
Met with industry stakeholders and advocacy groups from across the province, focussing on affordable housing, healthcare, and a clean economy.
Put forward motions to protect prime farmland in Wilmot, push mid-rise housing units, and urge an immediate forest fire action plan.
Education & Healthcare
In response to advocacy from teachers unions (ETFO, OSSTF), educational assistants, and local parent councils, Aislinn hosted an education town hall to hear directly from local educators and parents about mental health and behavioural challenges in schools. She took the demands for more recruitment and retention of support staff and for better funding directly to the Minister of Education at the Committee hearing at Queen’s Park.
Pushed back against the privatization and underfunding of healthcare, social assistance, and education.
After the death of David O’Brien on a Motion wheelchair, and many other negative reports about Motion Kitchener, which is contracted by the Ministry of Health, Aislinn advocated to the government for accountability. She wrote a letter to the Minister and personally met with the Motion CEO. Through her advocacy, Motion agreed to host a feedback session for clients who had negative experiences with their assistive devices and offered maintenance checks as well.
Social Matters
Started a social media campaign in response to the announced closure of safe consumption and treatment sites across Ontario, including in our riding. Made a video to raise awareness about safe supply and attended rallies.
Successfully passed and co-sponsored multi-partisan bill to proclaim October 18 in each year as Persons Day - honouring five courageous Canadian women in having the word “persons” defined as always meaning both women and men in 1929.
She has been a strong advocate for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. She met with a variety of local Palestinian advocacy groups such as the Palestine Youth Movement, Waterloo Region Friends of Palestine, Independent Jewish Voices. She hosted a public townhall to push for amendments to Bill 166 to prevent the stifling of Palestinian and Jewish voices on campus. She continues to participate in collective action such as the weekly Walk of Grief for Gaza.
Showed support at rallies fighting for LGBTQ+ rights, Grassy Narrows, public healthcare.
